[Be a luminary maker in dark times.]
Settle the question: Is this the right time for [your gifts]?
See and choose what holds you while you keep your luminary existence alight.
Make work that makes ways.
Sustaining our stamina to hold spaces of hope, healing, and humanity in these times requires a particular devotion and practice.
In this 2-hour free class, together we tend to the scaffolding that holds up our sacred commitments to exist as luminaries in darkness.
Some of us will need to build and operate well-lit infrastructure, no matter how heavy the world feels outside. I want you to feel focused and trusting as you do.
Now is not the time to question if your work has a place in the world. If you should wait to be creative, wait to share your ideas, wait to build your vision until things feel lighter.
Beloved, you are the light. You are here to make it lighter for your worlds. You and your work are so necessary.
You don’t do this alone. There is radically helpful framing & community to support and sustain you as you work.

[What we’ll cover.]
The class agenda.
Resolve the question.
[Receive a summons to quiet your doubts and mobilize your gifts.]
We are living through times of collapse — war, genocide, ecocide, economic instability, political extremism. The question of “Should I even be doing this right now?” is necessary for all of us with an ethical spine. And, there’s a way to lean into the question and let it be our compass rather than our stumbling block.
Returning to lineage, land, interconnected roles — the nuanced, contextualized, deeply personal answer to this question emerges in what we already hold. What we are here to embody.
In this session, I’ll guide you to do this inquiry together. Reorienting your work and gifts into relationship, resources, and responsibility. You’ll emerge with clarity about what, why, for whom, and why now more than ever to propel your work forward.
Explore the framework.
[See how story serves what you do & who you are.]
Understand how story work is already operational in what you do and how you share your gifts with your worlds. Dive deeper into 3 modalities of story work as a method to sharpen your focus and sustain your specific offerings.
Healing - Story work to transform fracture to wholeness, then live out a healing existence.
Reaching - Story work as culture-shaping, people-gathering messages, art, and media.
Teaching - Story work as the path to eldership, sustaining communities in articulated wisdom.
I’ll guide you to see how you are already a storyteller and where each of these modalities is already operational in your work and existence.
Audit what you hold.
[Lay out the pieces to understand your next move.]
This is the part of our session that really moves you and your work forward with practical steps. First, you’ll map your gifts, training, aptitude to the story work modality that is already most operational for you. Seeing how it’s already working allows your nervous system to root into positive proof, further expanding what you already do.
I’ll guide you to audit your current chapter to get more specific about what you need right now. Looking at current resources, the needs of your people, your capacity and context — you’ll gain clarity about what modalities are more present for you and what is more out of reach right now.
Looking carefully at the tensions that are present, this exercise will open up insight into why things have felt sticky, offer you permission to release unhelpful expectations, and help you focus on what is already ready to resource you in your work.
Map your plan.
[Blueprint your becoming & building work.]
Having surveyed a clear lay of the land, you'll map how to tend to you work in this chapter. First you'll identify how to more efficiently resource your work with your most operational story work modality - what is already operational and within easy reach?
Then, you'll identify the levers you want to develop in the other two areas to deepen and broaden your work towards longevity and expanded impact. Finally, you'll leave with concrete integration practices so you continue to reinforce your luminary work with the scaffolding that can hold it.
This entire map is our Sovereign Storyteller orientation - for incoming students, the cohort will hold you as you carry out the integration of your personalized plan. By October, you will have rooted into this orientation in a way that indelibly changes the aperture of your work and existence.

[Preview of story work as lattice work]
The empathic human who has felt all the cracks and learns to create steadiness in themselves & their worlds.
᪥ You cultivate self-trust & self-resourcing through decolonizing your relationship with your inner voice & disentangling yourself oppressive narratives.
᪥ Through self-inquiry & excavation, you shift your relationship with your stories - honoring lessons, reframing burdens, accepting even your most tender self — emerging as a beacon of wholeness and humanity for others to witness.
᪥ Having gathered all the pieces of yourself back to coherence, liberation, and sovereignty — expanding your capacity without pressure or performance — your very existence heals yourself, your lineages, and your communities.
Story work for healing.
The creative whose stories, dreams, and metabolized understandings are prolifically channeled into culture-shaping, community-fortifying media and art.
᪥ Your stories become the irrepressible current between you and your people, calling them into the un-flattened visions you hold for you & them.
᪥ You root your voice in your values, your refusals, your visions, your power, your lineage, and your lessons - making your messages specific, timely, forward, contextual, and unmistakably helpful.
᪥ People gather through your words, instantly recognizing the message was meant for them, galvanizing them into action. You, your stories, your messages are the hope needed in your worlds to channel collective consciousness into form and movement. Your voice becomes their charging port.
Story work for reaching.
The vision-holder who is maturing lived experience into eldership, space-making, and long, slow, deep stewardship of thriving communities.
᪥ The wisdom each of your lived experiences holds (and the gifts passed down from your lineage) is ripening on the vine.
᪥ You organize your wisdom into transformational student-centered experiences, spaces, and curriculum.
᪥ By shaping your knowledge into form (spaces, courses, workshops, books, events, essays, oral stories, pages, podcasts), you have the scaffolds in place to architect your impact and create discoverable, lasting, collective change.
᪥ Your wisdom-creations, designed as radical care & community, become your best co-teachers, rippling your paradigm-shifting voice to all those who enter, shepherding their transformations, and making it inevitable for them to stay, belong, and flourish together.
Story work for teaching.
劉永真
Hi, I’m Joey.
I can’t remember when I first started calling myself “storyteller” but I know my email signature has read “Learner - Adventurer - Storyteller” since my Hotmail days.
I started telling stories to keep the peace. Whether I was telling stories or pulling stories out of my family members, there would be moments of deep joy & connection in otherwise chaotic surroundings.
Storytelling as coping matured into storytelling as healing when I deepened my practice in narrative self-inquiry (research) and creative self-expression (spoken word poetry).
My studies in decolonization & Kundalini yoga helped me anchor the practices of my story work in: coming home to my body, healing my nervous system, and finding my sovereignty — rooted in joy-making, creativity, and communion.
Along the way, storytelling as connection, as belonging, as liberation became the throughline in my travels around the globe, my teaching in classrooms, my speaking on mics, becoming a wife & mother, and, now, the work that connects me to you.
Story work allows me to free myself & others continuously. I hope you get free too.
